SOW 3801 Self-Awareness & Human Diveristy (3)


THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO HELP STUDENTS DEVELOP AWARENESS OF SELF AND THE USE OF SELF TO EMPOWER OTHERS IN SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE. THE STUDENT WILL EXAMINE HIS/HER IDENTITY, INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP SKILLS, PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS, STYLES OF COMMUNICATION, AND VALUE SYSTEM. AN EMPHASIS WILL BE PLACED ON HELPING STUDENTS EXAMINE THEIR OWN BIASES AND PREJUDICES IN AREAS OF HUMAN DIVERSITY, SUCH AS RACE/ETHNICITY, GENDER, AGE RELIGION, SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND POLITICAL ORIENTATION. IN ADDITION, PERSONALITY ATTRIBUTES AND COMMUNICATION STYLES WILL BE VIEWED AS FORMS OF HUMAN DIVERSITY
