The School of Allied Health Sciences offers a course of study that leads to the degree Bachelor of Science in health sciences.
The student majoring in health sciences graduates with a general degree that will allow that graduate to work in a health care setting or continue on to graduate school. In the future, the health sciences student will also have the option of choosing specialized tracks within the health sciences program that will occur primarily during the junior and senior years.

Curriculum
The Health Science curriculum is designed to produce graduates capable of demonstrating those characteristics identified as desirable by employers of tomorrow’s health care professionals.

Pre-Physical Therapy Concentration
Currently, the Health Sciences major includes all of the courses required for entry into the physical therapy graduate program. Therefore, it is recommended that students interested in majoring in physical therapy at the graduate level should major in health sciences Pre-Physical Therapy at the undergraduate level. The health sciences degree also provides the basis for students to pursue graduate education in other health care and science-oriented arenas. The health sciences degree is suitable for students wishing to pursue and graduate with general health-related knowledge to be used as the basis for work in a health-care setting. Additionally, students who already have an Associate of Arts (AA) degree who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree and return to work in a related health arena such as physical therapist assistant or occupational therapy assistant would benefit from the Health Sciences degree. The degree is also useful for lower division pre-professional students who completed the necessary prerequisite courses for a professional program but were not accepted into that program. With the health sciences degree, such students are still able to graduate in a health-related arena.

Pre-Occupational Therapy Concentration
In addition to the Health Science/Pre-Physical Therapy Concentration the School also offers the Health Science/Pre-Occupational Therapy Concentration. This concentration is recommended for students interested in majoring in Occupational Therapy at the graduate level. Successful completion of the health science degree is only one criteria for entry into the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program. Please see MSOT program for additional criteria.
