The mission of the School of Business and Industry (SBI) at Florida A&M University is to produce graduates capable of excelling as future leaders in global business, industry, and commerce. This is achieved by:

The School’s curricula management process results in undergraduate degree programs that produce learning experiences in management-specific knowledge and skills areas such as those listed below.

- Financial theories, analysis, reporting and markets.
- Creation of value through the integrated production and distribution of goods, services and information.
- Group and individual dynamics in organizations.
- Statistical data analysis and management science as they support decision-making processes throughout an organization.

Program Objective
The objective of the Bachelor of Science program is to produce graduates capable of excelling as future leaders in global business, industry, and commerce. SBI undergraduates are capable of performing effectively and advancing within a variety of organizations and are prepared to pursue advanced degrees here and elsewhere to realize their academic aspirations and further their career goals.

Accounting and Business Administration
Bachelor of Science Admission Requirements
Admissions requirements are determined by the School’s Recruitment, Admission, Retention, and Progression Committee and approved by the SBI Faculty.
First-Time-In College (FTIC) Students
FTIC students interested in business or accounting are admitted to Pre-Business or Pre-Accounting. Any student interested in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with program major Facilities Management, Supply Chain Management, Economics, Economics minor in Business or Bachelor of Arts in Economics programs are admitted directly into the major as indicated on the student’s application for admission based on meeting the University’s (FAMU) admission criteria.
Transfer Students
Students applying to transfer into SBI on the basis of college coursework completed at another school or college (inside or outside of Florida A&M University) are admitted into Pre-Business or Pre-Accounting if they do not qualify to transfer into one of SBI’s degree programs.
III. Exiting Pre-Business or Pre-Accounting to the Accounting or Business Administration Degree Programs
To exit Pre-Business or Pre-Accounting and enter into one of SBI’s B.S. in Accounting or Business Administration program or the Professional degree programs, students must satisfy the following admission requirements listed below:
- Earn at least 52 semester credit hours of college-level coursework.
- Attain good academic standing with the University (not under an academic warning or on academic probation and not under academic suspension).
- Complete the University’s Gordon Rule general education requirements and Foreign Language requirement.
- Complete the pre-major common course prerequisites (listed below or their equivalents) with grade of B or better in three (3) of the courses and no less than a grade of C or better in each of the other four (4) courses. The courses are as follows:

ACG 2071 Managerial Accounting Principles (3)
ECO 2013 Principles Of Economics I (3)
ECO 2023 Principles Of Economics II (3)
MAC 2233 Business Calculus (3)
QMB 2100 Quantitative Methods & Business Decisions I (3)
MAN 2543 Introduction To Business Systems (3)
- Submit an application to the Office of Student Services for admission to SBI’s Professional MBA program or one of the School’s Bachelor of Science programs in Accounting or Business Administration.
While in Pre-Business or Pre-Accounting, students have restricted access to upper-division (3000-4000) business courses. Specifically, unless granted a special waiver by the Dean’s Office, they are prohibited from taking more than 18 credit hours of accounting and introductory upper-division business courses (excluding credit hours repeated under the University’s grade forgiveness policy).
Curriculum Update Policy
The SBI administration and faculty recognize their responsibility to:
- Upgrade the curriculum to assure that students acquire the most current and relevant training possible. If changes are necessary, every effort will be made to substitute rather than add requirements to the student’s curriculum. The assurance of well-prepared graduates will always be the controlling concern.
- Produce graduates that are academically, ethically, and professionally prepared to accept the challenges of the current and future business profession. Consequently, the School of Business and Industry reserves the right to withhold the recommendation for graduation of any student who does not conform to these expectations.
Curriculum Requirements
All classes applied toward graduation must be passed with a grade of “C” or better. See your advisor for approved course sequences.
MAJORS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A MINIMUM OVERALL GRADE POINT AVERAGE OF 3.00 TO REGISTER FOR AN ACADEMIC OVERLOAD (more than 18 credit hours). PERMISSION MUST BE OBTAINED FROM CHAIRPERSON and DEAN BEFORE REGISTERING. NON-COMPLIANCE WILL RESULT IN STUDENTS BEING ADMINISTRATIVELY WITHDRAWN FROM CLASS(ES) WITH TUITION AND FEE LIABILITY.
