The Mission of the Department of Chemistry is to provide students with a strong background in the concepts and theories of chemistry, and to equip them with problem-solving and critical thinking skills in preparation for pursuing advanced degrees and careers in chemistry and chemistry-related areas.
The department is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and every program is certified by the ACS. The chemistry faculty has developed a program to meet the needs of undergraduate students who desire to pursue research careers, graduate studies in chemistry or studies toward careers in medicine or dentistry.
The Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry) is designed to prepare students for careers in biochemistry, biotechnology, dentistry, medicine or graduate training.
No chemistry course with a grade below "C" will be accepted as credit toward a major or minor in chemistry.
Requirements for the Minor in Chemistry - A minor in chemistry requires completion of the following chemistry courses with a grade of "C" or better: CHM 1045 -CHM 1045L , CHM 1046 -CHM 1046L , CHM 2210 -CHM 2211 , CHM 2210L -CHM 2211L plus an additional four (4) semester hours of chemistry courses approved by the department.
