ARH 2051 ART HISTORY II: BAROQUE TO MODERN (Introduction to Art History: Cathedrals to Conquest)

This course continues the survey of art history, covering the period from the Renaissance to the present day. Students will examine major works of art and architecture, focusing on their stylistic, cultural, and historical contexts. The course emphasizes the development of visual analysis skills and an understanding of the social, political, and technological factors that have influenced artistic production over time. It may include a continuation of content related a global survey of art history from the Late Roman Empire in 337 AD to The Age of Discovery in the 16th century. The course includes a chronological and systematic approach; provides a basis for more detailed study of individual periods in upper-level art history courses, or a solid general foundation for a heightened appreciation of the heritage of art.
