POS 2112 AMERICAN STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS Credit hours: 3 This course provides an in-depth examination of the structures, functions, and processes of state and local governments in the United States, with a special emphasis on the government of Florida. Students will explore the relationship between state and local governments and the federal system, analyzing how power and responsibilities are distributed across different levels of government. The course also examines key political theories and ideas that have influenced the development of American governance, particularly those that have shaped the understanding of state and local political institutions. Through case studies and analysis of contemporary issues, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the role of state and local governments in the broader context of American democracy.
