The Department of Biology’s mission is to provide training for students in two important and growing career fields: Healthcare and STEM. Students will become highly qualified individuals to lead the changing economical and societal landscape of the 21st century.
The department is dedicated to providing contemporary quality undergraduate and graduate education. The structure of the program affords students an opportunity to gain a wide breadth of exposure in the field of biology. Students develop competency in the use of modern biological techniques, critical thinking, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data.
Part of the mission is to create opportunities for students to conduct research. Students are well prepared to enter the workforce or continue with graduate or professional schools; such as medical, dental, or pharmacy. The department serves non-majors, as well, such as contributing to the development of nursing and allied health majors. It exposes other students to biological concepts that impact their lives. The faculty and staff of the Department of Biology strive to always provide “Excellence with Caring.”
