Degree Program - The Department of Mathematics offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Students completing the program will be prepared for employment in the government sector, private industry, or graduate studies in mathematics. Students interested in employment immediately upon graduation should select the Mathematical Sciences major. This option gives the student the opportunity to apply various mathematical principles to specific areas such as economics, the sciences, finance, accounting, etc. emphasizing a student’s interest. The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics gives the students a solid mathematical foundation and prepares them for graduate study in mathematics or applied mathematics. The Actuarial Science major is specifically for those students interested in a career as an actuary. Completion of this option will provide the student with the information needed to pass the first two exams needed for an actuary career. A grade of “C” or better is required in each course in mathematics taken for credit for a major or a minor in mathematics.
