The Division of Graphic Communication offers a four-year curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design. The curriculum is designed primarily to prepare graduates for successful careers in graphic design, and allied industries. Focus is also given to students interested in teaching graphic design in junior colleges and with certification at vocational/secondary schools. The impact of graphic design on modern business and industry will be important for students studying art, architectural engineering, technology, journalism/communication, and other disciplines.

Retention

All students admitted as graphic design majors, having fulfilled the university admission requirements, must maintain a 2.0 GPA in all graphic design courses and earn a “C” grade in all graphic design electives. A full-time student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours of academic work per semester.

Once established as a graphic design major, any student who falls below the 2.0 GPA in the major for more than two consecutive semesters will be placed on academic probation. A student placed on probation must meet with the retention committee, which will recommend to the Dean conditional reinstatement, full reinstatement or removal from the graphic design program.
