The Department of Secondary Education, Technology Education, and Foundations offers a number of undergraduate teacher education programs at the secondary school level in select content areas. State-approved teacher education programs at the secondary level music education with a concentration in wind and percussion; music education with a concentration in voice or piano; secondary education with a concentration in biology education, chemistry education, English education, history education, mathematics education, physics education, or political science education. The department has a state-approved professional training option (PTO) program that provides an opportunity for students majoring in select non-education degree programs to seek temporary certification. Recent and pending modifications in teacher certification requirements in Florida may alter the requirements from those printed below. Each student is advised to consult the department and his or her respective academic advisor for more up-to-date information as it becomes available.
Bachelor of Science Degrees Offered:
- Music Teacher Education with a concentration in voice and piano
- Music Teacher Education with a concentration wind and percussion
- Secondary Education* with a concentration in:
- Biology Education
- Chemistry Education
- English Education
- History Education
- Mathematics Education
- Physics Education
- Political Science Education
*Note1: Effective Fall 2015 and thereafter, students entering these programs are required to complete 120 semester hours.
*Note2: These programs lead to initial teacher certification. In order to graduate from the state-approved program, ALL requirements must be satisfactorily met.
