The components of Criminal Justice offerings consist of theory, research methods, criminal law, law enforcement, corrections, and juvenile justice. To major in criminal justice, a student must complete thirty (30) credit hours of 3000 level or above courses in criminal justice, including CCJ 3117   (3) , CCJ 4700  (3), CCJ 3718  (3), CCJ 4934  (3), CJE 4065  (3), CJL 3510  (3), and CJL 4012  (3). It is expected that these twenty-one (21) credit hours of core courses will be taken at Florida A&M University. CCJ 2010  Introduction To Criminal Justice is a prerequisite for all upper level courses in criminal justice.

The additional nine (9) credit hours are to be taken from a single substantive area. Students may choose from the following substantive areas: (1) legal studies, (2) minority and gender studies, (3) juvenile justice, or (4) corrections. A grade below a “C” in any of these courses will not be accepted for credit toward the major.

Internships are available for students to acquire experience in their chosen professional area and who do not plan to do graduate work. The internship is optional, but students are strongly encouraged to arrange their schedules so that they can complete an internship before they graduate.

A minor is required for Criminal Justice majors. The minor requires eighteen (18) credit hours in an approved discipline. The curriculum for the minor follows the requirements specified by the minor discipline. A grade below a “C” will not be accepted for credit toward the minor.
