The School of Allied Health Sciences offers a course of study that leads to the degree Bachelor of Science in Health Science: Pre-Occupational Therapy concentration. The Health Science curriculum is designed to produce graduates capable of demonstrating those characteristics identified as desirable by employers of tomorrow’s health care professionals. The student majoring in Health Sciences graduates with a general degree that will allow that graduate to work in a health care setting or continue on to graduate school.
Currently, the Health Sciences major includes all of the courses required for entry into the occupational therapy
graduate program. Therefore, Health Science: Pre-Occupational Therapy is the recommended undergraduate level major for students interested in occupational therapy. Students who wish to apply to the occupational therapy graduate program will major in Health Science: Pre-Occupational Therapy (see below). Those who wish to pursue physical therapy should select the Health Sciences Pre-Physical Therapy concentration (see Division of Physical Therapy for complete curriculum). The Health Sciences degree also provides the basis for students to pursue graduate education in other health care and science-oriented arenas. The Health Sciences degree is suitable for students wishing to pursue and graduate with general health-related knowledge to be used as the basis for work in a health-care setting. Additionally, students who already have an Associate of Arts (AA) degree who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree and return to work in a related health arena would benefit from the Health Sciences degree.
