The program in history is committed to the development of a versatile course of study designed to prepare students for careers in history, as well as to provide pre-professional training for a variety of other fields. The department offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in History.
All students majoring in history are required to earn 30-36 semester hours in history. However, students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program must complete twelve (12) hours of foreign language in a single language, typically Spanish or French. Also, they must earn a minor of 18 hours in a second area of concentration. All students earning a major in the area must have at least a 2.00 GPA overall to qualify for graduation with a degree in the program. Also, students must pass all classes other than the natural sciences with a grade of “C” or better. Students should see their academic advisor for course sequences in: mathematics, social science, humanities, statistics, and computers.
