RN-BSN, BSN

The RN-BSN program is specifically designed for registered nurses who desire to obtain a bachelor of science degree.
It offers flexible options for the educational needs of the registered nurse. The course work is structured to enhance the
breadth and depth of previous education for the changing medical/health environment.

PROGRESSION, RETENTION, AND GRADUATION
Students are expected to continue the program without interruptions. However, personal circumstances may occur.
Students may step out of the program and will be able to return without reapplication if return date is no more than three semesters.
It is expected that all students are familiar with progression, retention, and graduation requirements.
Completion of all courses with a minimum grade of “C” is a prerequisite for progression to the next semester’s courses.
Two course failures (i.e., D or F grades) will result in dismissal from the School of Nursing (SON). Neither a retroactive university withdrawal
nor a university grade forgiveness invalidates a nursing course failure (i.e., D or F).

GPA must remain at a cumulative 2.00 or above. Students failing to meet the 2.00 minimum will undergo transcript evaluation and placed on
probation within the SON. If students do not achieve a 2.0 or above by the following semester, the student will be dismissed from the program.
If a student is not meeting satisfactory academic standards, the student will receive counseling that may lead to other progression actions.
Inappropriate behavior will be addressed as described in the university’s Student Code of Conduct and/or the School of Nursing handbook.
A nursing student may order the school’s pin during the last semester. The pin is awarded after the successful completion of the nursing
program.

The RN-BSN clinical course is design for students to engage in in experiential learning activities, including assessments and diagnosing of
communities and/or populations. The RN-BSN Student will plan and implement health care interventions at varying
levels of prevention and in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members. Health People 2030 and
epidemiological data will guide activities and population selection.

Note:

The program may be completed in 12 months.

Sixty (60) hours must be earned at a senior institution. The final 30 hours must be taken at FAMU. A student who transfers with less than 60 credits upon admission must earn nine (9) credit hours prior to graduation by attending one or more summer terms.

Students can enroll either full-time (3 semesters to complete) or part-time (5 semesters to complete). Students may start the RN-BSN program while completing general education courses. All required pre-nursing/prerequisite courses must be completed to be eligible for graduation. The Transition to Professional Nursing course must be taken in the first semester of enrollment in the RN-BSN program and successfully completed prior to advancing in the program.
