One Year Master of Business, MBA


The School of Business and Industry (SBI) offers a One-Year (three-semester) Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. The MBA program provides graduate education for individuals who want to pursue management careers in business and industry. The concentration allows students enrolled in this program to customize their education to fit their career goals. The One-Year MBA program accepts students who hold an undergraduate degree in business or non-business disciplines and equips them with managerial and behavioral skills for leadership positions in global business, industry and commerce. The program is broad in approach; it integrates the functional areas of business with carefully tailored behavioral skills enhancement programs to develop holistically competent managers. Through the use of elective courses, students can develop depth in one or more areas, e.g., accounting, finance, marketing, supply chain management or information systems.

The School of Business and Industry admits students into the One-Year MBA program under the following criteria:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • 1100 point requirement: last 60 hours of B.S. degree GPA x 200 + GMAT score
  • Minimum upper division GPA of 3.00
  • Evidence of maturity and leadership

School of Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR) criteria:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated potential for successful graduate study
  • Earned GPA of 3.0 or higher for the last 60 semester hours (or equivalent) of undergraduate work attempted and acceptable score on the GMAT, or
  • A score of 600 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
  • International applicants whose first language is not English may be required to present a passing score on the TOEFL (500 paper-based, 213 computerbased, and 80 internet-based).

To apply for the One-Year MBA Program, a prospective student should take the following steps:

  • Apply to take the GMAT and request the results be sent to the School of Business and Industry at Florida A&M University as well as three letters of recommendation
  • Submit completed application with fee to: The School of Graduate Studies and Research, Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL 32307-5200

Requirements: One-Year (Three Semesters) MBA Program


Forty-four graduate credits are required for completion of the One-Year (Three Semesters) MBA program. In addition, business core prerequisites are required for candidates with non-business undergraduate degrees. All prerequisites must be satisfied prior to enrolling in graduate coursework. Students will meet with their assigned advisors to select the appropriate coursework consistent with their professional interests. Presented below is a partial list of graduate courses frequently selected in fulfilling the One-Year (Three Semesters) MBA program. One-Year (Three Semesters) MBA Program


Total Hours: 44


  1. Each course will have relevant international and ethics components as they relate to the discipline.
  2. The Business Policy - Strategic Management course will be taken the semester the student is graduating.
  3. Students are encouraged to take advantage of SBI’s internship opportunities.

Online MBA Requirements


The curriculum for the Online Track of the One-Year MBA is the same as the traditional One-Year MBA with one exception, the coursework is cohort-based and taken over five (5) semesters. The FAMU Online MBA program gives online students access to a broad array of innovative opportunities with special emphasis on team collaboration, including work abroad and graduate case competitions. Our extensive network of corporate employers also helps to further our students’ exposure to areas ranging from accounting to supply chain management.

Candidates are encouraged to apply a semester in advance of starting the program. Interested candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • hold a Bachelor’s degree earned from an accredited college or university.
  • completed a minimum of five years of post-baccalaureate work experience with at least two years at the managerial level preferred.
  • demonstrate academic potential: (a) cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in upper-division coursework completed for the baccalaureate degree (and submit a GRE or GMAT score) or (b) a score of at least 300 on the GRE or (c) a score of at least 600 on the GMAT.

Beyond satisfying these requirements, international applicants whose first language is not English may be required to present a passing score on the TOEFL (500 paper-based, 213 computer- based, and 80 internet-based).

Prior to starting coursework, students will be required to achieve passing scores on SBI’s adaptive assessments in spreadsheets, accounting, finance, and statistics. SBI’s adaptive assessments (with embedded tutorials) ensure that students have the prerequisite skills needed to succeed in the MBA curriculum.

MAJORS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A MINIMUM OVERALL GRADE POINT AVERAGE OF 3.00 TO REGISTER FOR AN ACADEMIC OVERLOAD (more than 18 credit hours).  PERMISSION MUST BE OBTAINED FROM CHAIRPERSON and DEAN BEFORE REGISTERING.  NON-COMPLIANCE WILL RESULT IN STUDENTS BEING ADMINISTRATIVELY WITHDRAWN FROM CLASS(ES) WITH TUITION AND FEE LIABILITY.
